Nokia Lumia 920 Release Date, Specs: Can HTC Windows Phone 8X Top Lumia 920? Both May Overshadow iPhone 5

Fans are waiting for Nokia to release their Lumia 920 flagship smartphone during the holiday season.

Reports say that the Lumia 920 will have an Oct. 21 launch date with AT&T.

The Lumia 920 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8. It takes many of the physical design elements from previous generations of Lumia handsets, but improves on internal hardware and display technology. Some of the new tech specs include PureMotion HD+ 4.5 inch display (1280 x 768 resolution), Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, NFC chip, 2,000mAh battery, and Qi wireless charging. Nokia is touting the Lumia 920′s premier feature as its new camera lens, the Carl Zeiss lens. It has rounded edges and colorful covers with a PureView camera.

Another smartphone giant has joined the race for Windows 8 phones: HTC.

HTC recently launched their new HTC Phone 8X device.

According to Tapscape, HTC's Graham Wheeler, the HTC Phone 8X's design was inspired by the Start Screen:

"The designers actually took inspiration from the Start Screen and actually a live tile, they thought about a live tile and how that would look if that was actually a physical something you hold."

Tapscape describes:

"The HTC Phone 8X will be available in November and will come in the following colors - California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow. So in addition to a boldly colored case, what are you getting with an HTC Phone 8X? The device will have a 4.3-inch 720p HD super LCD 2 display and will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It will come with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and have NFC support. The HTC Phone 8X will also have a 8 MP camera, which is standard for phones in this class but what's different is that it steps up its game with the front facing camera and gives users a 2.1 MP camera instead of the usual 1.3 MP. The HTC Phone will weigh astonishingly light at 130 grams, significantly less than the Nokia Lumia 920′s 180 grams."

It will also come with Beats Audio.

CNET compared the two phones. The Lumia 920 and the HTC Phone 8X are similar in ways, such as the colors, NFC, processor, and RAM. However, the HTC phone is smaller, lighter, and thinner than the Lumia 920. The Lumia 920 has a larger display. HTC's 8-megapixel camera includes the image chip; shutter lag is virtually nonexistent and photo quality is very high. And when it comes to the front-facing cameras, HTC's 2.1-megapixel front-facer has the upper hand over Nokia's 1-megapixel contribution.

The two smartphones might pose some serious competition to each other, but what does it mean for Apple?

Many consumers show that they want the Lumia 920 over the iPhone.

A Books & Review poll showed that, with 2,901 votes, users would buy the Lumia 920. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung's "phablet," got 253 votes. And the iPhone5 got 147 votes. Boo.

The Examiner did a "multimedia showdown" between the iPhone 5, Galaxy S3, and the Lumia 920.

"The winner: It's hard to call, but it looks like the winner may be the Lumia 920," the Examiner concluded. They got this answer because of the Lumia 920's 8.7MP camera, which is said to be the most capable camera yet on a smartphone. Also, the PureView sensor has not only has optical image stabilization, but the latest generation BSI sensor. It also has a Carl Zeiss lens. The camera on the Lumia 920 is said to be an easy digital camera replacement, reported the Examiner.
