Nokia Lumia 920 Release Date, Price, Specs: AT&T Reveals Lumia 820, 'Exclusive' Windows 8 Phone, 'Hottest Phone For Holidays'

Nokia will unleash their two new Windows 8 smartphones soon.

AT&T revealed that it will carry the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, which the Lumia 920 will be an AT&T exclusive.

According to Wired, in the statement, the Lumia 920 and 820 will both run on its 4G network. The Lumia 920 will come in red, white, black, yellow and cyan. The Lumia 820 will be available in a single black, although users can purchase Nokia's removable colored back covers to customize the phone. AT&T did not give any specific release date beyond November.

The Lumia 920 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8. It takes many of the physical design elements from previous generations of Lumia handsets, but improves on internal hardware and display technology. Some of the new tech specs include PureMotion HD+ 4.5 inch display (1280 x 768 resolution), Dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, NFC chip, 2,000mAh battery, and Qi wireless charging. Nokia is touting the Lumia 920′s premier feature as its new camera lens, the Carl Zeiss lens. It has rounded edges and colorful covers with a PureView camera.

The Lumia 820 looks to be Nokia's new mid-range WP8 device with a 4.3 inch OLED WVGA ClearBlack display with Sunlight Readability Enhancement, 8GB storage and microSD card slot, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon Qualcomm processor, 1GB RAM, and Dual-LEAD flash auto-focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics. It features Nokia Maps, Drive, and City Lens.

Many fans are waiting for the highly anticipated phone.

"The Lumia 920 will be one of the hottest phones for the holidays," Jeff Bradley, an AT&T senior vice president, said Thursday in the statement, according to SFGate.

"Our continued collaboration with AT&T is an important component for Nokia's success in the U.S. market," Olivier Puech, president of Nokia Americas, said in the statement.

Previous reports for the AT&T release date say it will be Oct. 21. Numerous tech sites, including BGR and GforGames, and WPCentral and its sources also re-confirmed the Oct. 21 launch date. The latest rumors are that the release date for Verizon is sometime in November.

According to Wired, Europe got numbers on Thursday.

"The unsubsidized cost of the higher-end Lumia 920 is around $800 U.S. - based on Thursday's exchange rate, and prices vary slightly between European countries. That's more than the current unsubsidized market price of competing Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III, and price-wise, puts the Lumia 920 close to the Apple's new iPhone 5. The middle-tier Lumia 820 is around $650 unsubsidized."

Prices should come down when the phones hit the U.S. market. Apple and Samsung phones are around the $200 mark, so Nokia has a lot of pressure to lead in the smartphone market.

"If Microsoft and Nokia want to see significant adoption, they must simply make the devices cheaper," says Random Salad Games, co-founder and Windows Phone developer Jake Poznanski.

Poznanski says he "suspects that Microsoft and Nokia will ensure a post-subsidy cost exactly on par with the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III, and we will continue to see a slow but steady growth of Windows Phone."

Nokia recently took a jab at its rival, Apple's iPhone 5, in a recent ad.

According to BetaNews, "Named "Nokia Lumia 920 - Time to #switch," the cartoon-like ad portrays iPhone 5 future owners queuing to purchase the latest smartphone bearing the fruit company logo, which is similar to the Korean manufacturer's approach, yet unlike Samsung, who played the better featured/already have it card, Nokia uses colors trying to market its own product against the iPhone 5," the website wrote.

Nokia markets the Lumia 920 more "playful" than the iPhone 5 with its colorful selection compared to Apple's selection of just black and white. The Lumia 920 comes in white, black, yellow, red, and gray.
