'Gone Girl' Movie Casting: Ryan Gosling and Charlize Theron to Play Nick and Amy? GIllian Flynn's Pick is Reese Witherspoon

It looks like "Gone Girl" will be the next big film adaption after E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Written by Gillian Flynn, the novel has become really popular and has stayed on the New York Times list for 17 weeks.

Back in July, it was announced that 20th Century Fox acquired "Gone Girl," which was published by Brown in June 2012. It will be produced by Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea, along with Leslie Dixon. Flynn will write the screenplay.

The crime novel centers on the rocky marriage of Nick and Amy Dunne. On their fifth anniversary, Amy goes missing and the police think Nick killed her, but it's deeper than that.

Witherspoon, 36, was put up for the role of Amy.

Word and Film said, "Reese Witherspoon is ideally cast as Amy, the novel's Type A titular tigress. And we can only see it as a positive sign that Flynn has been enlisted to adapt her intricate cautionary tale of depraved domestic discord for the big screen."

For Nick, it was previously mentioned that Jude Law and Matt Damon could play the important role.

However, fans of the book have other stars in mind. "Drive" star Ryan Gosling seems to be a fan favorite.

According to Amazon's Customer Discussions forum, fans mostly picked Gosling and Jake Gyllenhaal for the role of Nick, and Witherspoon and Charlize Theron for the role of Amy.

One commenter said, "For Nick, my money's on Jake Gyllenhaal--especially opposite Reese. There's got to be some weird energy there they could use."

Another said, "Ryan Gosling/Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel/Jennifer Connelly. I do love the Charlize idea though she is a great actress and very beautiful." One more said, "I was stuck for a guy (Nick), but I think Ryan Gosling is an excellent choice." Another said, "I'm not usually a fan of Charlize Theron, but when I read that suggestion it absolutely clicked- she's the right age, with the same looks as described in the book, and she definitely has the acting chops. For her husband, I think Ryan Gosling could pull off the acting, but I wonder about his chemistry with Theron and his ability to play borderline unlikeable/untrustworthy. Someone in another thread suggested Bradley Cooper, and I could see that- he's always come off as a bit creepy in my book."

In a casting poll by LATimes, Rachel McAdams won the poll with Amy Adams in second place and Michelle Williams in third.

For Nick, fans chose Gosling as number one, with Jake Gyllenhaal as second with Chris Pine and Channing Tatum close behind.

BuzzSugar chose Witherspoon as Amy, saying, "Though Witherspoon is only attached to produce at this point, it's not unlikely she could also play Amy, especially since she matches the age and physical description (late 30s, petite blonde)."

Others say Scarlett Johanson and Michael Fassbender or Bradley Cooper as Amy and Nick.

The SeattleTimes picked Witherspoon and Gosling as their Nick and Amy.

In a recently interview, Flynn talked about what the actor had to bring on the plate to play the part of Nick.

"It's going to be a fantastic role for the right actor, because he has to be charming and witty and charismatic, but you also have to believe he may have killed his wife. He has to be able to do some very unlikable things and yet still be likable. A serious balancing act, but I think the right actor will have a lot of fun with it," Flynn told Word and Film.

For the role of Amy, "I think Reese is an absolutely stunning actress."

"I think even when Reese is playing comedy, she has an edge, and it will be a blast to see her take on all of Amy's angles."
