Barnes & Noble Announces Two More Free Offers on NOOK Devices and Digital Content

Barnes & Noble announced another two free offers on the NOOK devices and digital content Wednesday.

Barnes & Noble financial disclosures revealed that its Nook Media division was not doing too well due to very weak holiday device sales. Ever since, the company has been pouring out offers to ramp up sales of its NOOK device and digital content. Only last week did they announce a week-long offer that entitles every purchaser of the NOOK HD+ device to a free Nook Simple Touch reader.

Now, Barnes & Noble simultaneously released two news releases announcing two different offers. The first news release announced that the company will be giving away eBooks and digital magazines to those who download the Nook app for Windows 8. Everyone who downloads the app can choose five eBooks and five magazines from the listed titles, which include "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel and "Blue Bloods" by Melissa De La Cruz. This offer is valid for a limited time only.

"NOOK is the highest-rated reading and digital bookstore app for Windows 8, and by providing bestselling books and top magazines for free, new NOOK customers can start their digital libraries with some of the best content in the expansive NOOK StoreTM," said Jamie Iannone, President of Digital Products at NOOK Media LLC in the news release. "With the NOOK app for Windows 8, customers get an incredible reading experience and can choose from over 3 million NOOK Books, including 1 million free titles, as well as magazines, newspapers and comics on any Windows 8 device."

The second news release announced that the company will also be sponsoring a "tournament of books" this month. Here, titles of books will be put up against each other till one book emerges the winner. Barnes & Noble will sell all books featured in the competition at discounted rates starting at $2.99 only. This offer, however, is only valid till March 29.

These two offers are the most recent in a string of discounts and special offers the book retailer has had to offer in the last couple of months. Prior to this, it had announced a $50 credit to buy content for all Nook HD+ purchasers. Later, the company introduced the Friday paid App giveaway, where every Friday, Barnes & Noble gave away one of their paid apps for free.
