'Mission: Impossible 6' in the Works! 'Rogue Nation' Exceeds Expectations With Stellar Debut Performance

"Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation" is undoubtedly a box office success, netting a monstrous $56 million on its first weekend as per Entertainment Weekly. It opened to an unbelievable $20.4 million, ultimately becoming the franchise's biggest bucks-scooper as of yet.

Being a record breaker of a movie, a sequel was already prophesied. In fact, Paramount Pictures is already on the move for "Mission Impossible 6," with Tom Cruise set to come back as the fearless, death-defying senior field operations agent Ethan Hunt.

"We're very happy to be developing this movie with Tom," Paramount Pictures vice chairperson Rob Moore told Variety. Ecstatic that the movie shattered everyone's expectations in terms of its performance in the box office, Moore said "there's no question that Ethan Hunt deserves another film."

According to Rentrak Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian, Cruise has a lot to do with how far and how big the long-running franchise has come. Dergarabedian told Fox News that the star "created a new Tom Cruise in the minds of audiences."

"He came off as very approachable, funny, he did the lip synching with Jimmy Fallon. This is the playbook on how a star - who is also a producer on the movie - gets the word out about his movie. He's a marketing machine," he went on to say.

Variety adds that the 53-year-old celeb is already set to reprise his role, and the actor says shooting for "Mission Impossible 6" could commence as early as next year. "We're starting to work on it now. We'll probably start shooting it next summer," Cruise told Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show."

On the same talk show, the A-list celeb relived the days when the franchise was just starting out all the way to this moment, with "Rogue Nation" becoming Cruise's third biggest film outing according to Entertainment Weekly. "War of the Worlds" and "Mission: Impossible II" are top two on the list.

"Now this is the fifth one. It's pretty amazing because it's the one, I thought, if I could keep making these kinds of movies," Cruise said as quoted by The Inquistr. "We're starting to work on [the sixth] now. We'll probably start shooting it next summer," he reiterated.

According to Variety, Cruise will be busy before cameras for "Mission Impossible 6" start rolling. At the moment, his schedule is taken up by drug thriller "Mena." An "Edge of Tomorrow" sequel could be in the offing too. Negotiations have already been made.
