James Holmes' Page Attacked by Facebook Users Who Think He's Colorado Shooting Suspect

Identifying alleged Aurora suspect James Holmes, 24, who killed 12 people at "The Dark Knight Rises" midnight screening in Colorado, has flooded the Internet, and some people are taking to Facebook to see if they can find him.

Another James Holmes, a resident of Littleton, Colorado, located about 15 miles from the scene of the crime, was bombarded on the social network with messages and friend requests from the public, according to Mashable. The post acquired 331 shares, according to his Facebook page.

He wrote in his defense:

"Dearest random Facebook people who keep confusing me for a mass murderer and yet still send me Facebook requests:

I appreciate the fact that you are trying to become better-informed about the occurrences last night in Aurora, but you have been somewhat mislead, in that I am not the man who did it. I am not a 24-year-old gun-slinging killer from Aurora, I am a 22-year-old book-slinging mass eater from Littleton. Somewhat distinct, I would assume. But I would appreciate if you would read this particular post and not assume that it would be interesting to be friends with someone on Facebook who is very probably going to be in jail and not be able to confirm your friend requests anyway, or even be friends with his girlfriend, who had the rather interesting experience of having to tell someone she had a job interview with that she is not, in fact dating a serial killer. James Holmes happens to be a pretty common name, surprisingly, so try not to jump the gun.

Regards, A different guy named James Holmes."

"concerned citizen 23 • 3 hours ago - As of 9:09 AM this morning, this post is still up, and I can still link to this innocent person's FB. You realize you can get in trouble for this, right? Also, as a right-wing blog, you attract crazies. This is not good.

JerseyRight • 4 hours ago - Pretty damn irresponsible post here.

quidpro • 3 hours ago • parent - Sums up the site, even without this event.

jasamc • 2 hours ago • parent - Oh, good, a post from someone visiting the site for the first time.

baoxian • 4 hours ago - Great, so how about we don't speculate on him being a mass murderer and linking to his page then?

A Liberal • 3 hours ago - The shooter had TN license plates. This is post is grossly irresponsible."

The real James Eagan Holmes that got arrested was identified by police early this morning. The FBI revealed that Holmes is a 24-year-old white American male. He is 6 feet, 3 inches tall and was born Dec. 13, 1987, reported the Huffington Post.

The gunman left 12 people dead and around 50 people injured after opening fire in the Aurora theater, which was showing a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises." Officials said Holmes acted alone when the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m.

Witnesses described him kicking open the back door of the Century Aurora 16 theater and opening fire with four weapons, one AK-type assault rifle, a shotgun and two handguns, according to CNN. Wearing a bulletproof vest and goggles, he stood at the front of the theater, tossed tear gas into the crowd and starting randomly shooting.

At least 20 were being treated at the University of Colorado Hospital, reported CNN. All of the wounded suffered from gunshot wounds, which ranged from minor to critical. The New York Daily News reported that the youngest victim was believed to be a three-month old infant, who was in fair condition, and a 6-year-old child was rushed to the hospital was a bullet wound.

Police evacuated the area surrounding Holmes' Denver-area apartment, saying the residence was apparently booby-trapped. A law enforcement source told CBS that police saw what looked like "buckets of extra ammunition" and some kind of chemical inside his home.

CBS News reported that Benjamin Fernandez, who was in an adjacent theater, said he saw a young girl, around 12 or 13 years old, laying on the concrete when he exited the building.

"From what I saw, she had two bullet wounds in her leg and just blood all over her stomach. Her friends were all just yelling, crying. ... We were just all pretty much in shock," he said.

A San Diego woman who identified herself as James Holmes' mother said she had no information about the shooting.

"You have the right person," the woman told ABC News. "I need to call the police. I need to fly out to Colorado."

According to Newsday, President Barack Obama said he was saddened by the "horrific and tragic shooting," pledging that his administration was "committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded."
