iPhone 5 Release Date, Rumors, Features: Will iPad Mini Debut in September Also? Leaked Footage of Parts Revealed (VIDEO)

The new iPhone 5 announcement date is reportedly set for Sept.12, and many reports say that the iPad Mini will be announced on the same day.

Recent reports say that iPhone 5 will debut at a special event on Sept. 12, 2012 and will release the next Friday on the 21st. It was said that the iPad Mini will be announced at the same event.

However, according to Gizmodo, well-connected and professional Apple dot-connector John Gruber is disputing the previous report about a dual-announcement of the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini and hinting that it makes more sense for Apple to hold two different events and announce the iPhone 5 on Sept. 12th and then wait until October to introduce the iPad Mini.

"First, an iPhone event, focused solely on the new iPhone and iOS 6. Then, the iPhone ships nine days later, and there's another wave of iPhone-focused attention as the reviews come out," Gruber explained. "Then, in the first or second week of October, Apple holds its traditional 'music event,' exactly along the lines of the events at which they've been debuting new iPods for the last decade.

This is only speculation, but Gizmodo reported that Gruber traditionally has been spot on when it comes to Apple things.

In other iPhone 5 news, a video of the rumored front plate was leaked online.

According to iDesignTimes, SmartPhone Medic, a smartphone repair company in South Carolina, reveals the iPhone 5 front plate as well as a number of small items including the "flex cable," the sleep-wake button and the volume controls.

"We just got some new iPhone 5 parts in," the video begins, before the faceless narrator reveals the larger display on what is allegedly an iPhone 5 front plate. It's clear in the video that the screen-parts shown are significantly larger than those on the iPhone 4S (about 30 percent bigger according to CNET). SmartPhone Medic also confirms rumors that the camera and proximity sensor have been repositioned on the iPhone 5.

The narrator also stacks the leaked iPhone 5 front plate on top of a Samsung Galaxy S3, demonstrating that the Galaxy S3's 4.8-inch touch-screen is still significantly taller and wider. The video also confirms rumors of a redesigned, smaller 8-pin dock connector (down from 30 pins).

In the text accompanying the YouTube video, SmartPhone medic addresses the redesigned dock connector, writing, "It does look like Apple has moved away from their traditional 30-pin dock connector to a new, and much smaller, 8-pin dock connector. It is still unknown if they will provide some type of adapter for those out there with 30-pin dock connector accessories."

They also address rumors that the iPhone 5 screen is taller but no wider, writing, "We're not sure why Apple decided to only make it taller and not wider, but I'm sure Mr. Cook will explain it at the upcoming Apple Event."

Apple has yet to say anything about the iPhone 5 and its release date, and hasn't addressed any rumors.

Reports say that the new iPhone 5 will have a bigger display, be thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4S, and will be able to run on 4G LTE technology. It was also said that it will feature a 19-pin mini connector and it will be equipped with a new technology called in-cell. This new in-cell technology integrates touch sensors into the LCD, making it unnecessary to have a separate touch-screen layer. This creates a thinner screen and improves the quality of displayed images. It will also feature tiny SIM cards called nano-SIMS, along with i0S 6.
