iPad Mini Release Date, Rumors: Mockup Reveals Thinner Bezel With Small Dock Connector and Larger Speakers (PHOTOS)

The iPad Mini is coming soon, and new information has surfaced.

Blog site Apple.pro claims to have photographed the 8-inch iPad.

According to the Mashable, the most surprising difference in the mockup, sourced from an online commerce website, seems to be the significantly thinner bezel around the screen.

Along with a cellular data antenna, the mockup seems to be very thin and features a smaller dock connector just like the next-generation iPhone. The unit also seems to have larger speakers near the dock.

Apple's iPad Mini will raise competition with rivals Google Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire 2.

Many reports said that Apple will hold a special event on Sept. 12 and will release the iPhone 5 on Sept. 21. Earlier reports suggested that Apple will also announce the iPad Mini on the same event, but now new reports suggest that is highly unlikely, and that it will be at a separate event in October.

According to Tech Crunch, well-connected and professional Apple dot-connector John Gruber saod that there will be two separate events.

"I'm thinking it makes more sense for Apple to hold two events. First, an iPhone event, focused solely on the new iPhone and iOS 6. Then, the iPhone ships nine days later, and there's another wave of iPhone-focused attention as the reviews come out. Then, in the first or second week of October, Apple holds its traditional "music event", exactly along the lines of the events at which they've been debuting new iPods for the last decade," Gruber said.

Gizmodo reported that Gruber traditionally has been spot on when it comes to Apple things.

TechCrunch reported that there is no real reason Apple should have the two devices "crowd each other."

It was recently reported that, according to Apple Insider, Apple will unleash eight new products set to go on sale, including the iPhone 5iPad Mini, new iPods and updated Macs.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo with KGI Securities, September is also likely to see the unveiling of a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, a new iPod touch, and a new 21.5-inch iMac.

Then, in October, reports have indicated that Apple is planning to hold a second media event at which it will unveil a smaller iPad with a 7.85-inch display. Joining the so-called "iPad mini" in October, according to Kuo, will be a new iPod nano, a "modified new iPad," and a new 27-inch iMac.

Marco Arment, creator of Instapaper, an iOS app for clipping and reformatting online content for reading later, recently revealed that he has evidence why the iPad Mini will sell for as low as $249.

"Rather than just sell the original iPad 2 with a price cut, they've made a new product designed to be far less expensive from day one by combining old and new parts: the 32nm iPad 2's guts, larger-cut iPhone 3GS screens, a smaller case and battery, and the new iPhone's low-power LTE chip for $100 more," Arment said, according to PC World.

He reached these conclusions after two new iPad 2 models showing up in his usage logs, iPad 2,5 and iPad 2,6.

Reports say that the new little iPad will feature a 7 to 8 inch IGZO display with 330 pixels/inch. It will be more affordable. It is also assumed that the new tablet will feature Apple's upcoming operating system, iO6, which includes a new, Google-free Maps app, and Passbook, and promises better Facebook integration, better maps, and better video conferences that use cellular data, according to Entrepreneur.com. It is also said to have a smaller dock connector and thinner bezel.
