Rebecca Yarros Announces New Standalone Novel 'Variation'

Esteemed writer Rebecca Yarros is poised to enthrall readers once more with her forthcoming novel, teeming with gripping familial conflicts. Entitled "Variation," her newest literary endeavor is slated for release this autumn, signaling a departure from her widely acclaimed The Empyrean Series. Published under Montlake, an imprint of Amazon Publishing, the book promises a riveting exploration of family dynamics, love, and concealed truths.

A Tale of Family and Secrets

"Variation" tells the story of Allie, a beloved ballerina whose flourishing career is abruptly halted by a severe injury. Faced with the daunting task of redefining her life without dance, she must confront deep-seated family secrets while tending to her ailing mother. Not only that, Allie's world is turned upside down when the daughter her late sister placed for adoption years ago unexpectedly appears on her doorstep, accompanied by Allie's first love, Hudson.

Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Yarros expressed her excitement about teaming up with Amazon Publishing for the release of her next contemporary romance. She noted their incredible support and anticipated readers delving into Allie and Hudson's journey, where family secrets surface as their lives collide after years apart.

Fans may recognize Yarros for her immensely popular The Empyrean Series. The series began with "Fourth Wing" in April 2023, chronicling the adventures of Violet Sorrengail as she trains to become an elite dragon rider at Basgiath War College. The series continued with "Iron Flame," detailing Violet's second year at the school.

A New Chapter in The Empyrean Series

Yarros announced on Good Morning America that the third book in The Empyrean Series, "Onyx Storm," will be released on January 21, 2025. The book promises to feature politics, new adventures, old enemies, and dragons. Stay tuned for additional details in the future.

Amazon MGM Studios announced plans for a TV adaptation of The Empyrean Series in October 2023, with Yarros serving as a non-writing executive producer. Amazon and Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society have obtained the rights to Yarros' "Fourth Wing" and its sequel "Iron Flame," as well as the three forthcoming books in the "Fourth Wing" universe, known as The Empyrean Series, from Entangled Publishing.

Yarros revealed at Emerald City Comic Con 2024 that her book "Fourth Wing" is being adapted into a television series for Amazon's Prime Video. She discussed how the deal came together, sharing that parts of it even surprised her. Yarros joked about discovering the publishers had sent her first draft during edits for "Fourth Wing." Despite the unexpected twists, she expressed excitement about the rapid development of the TV series, although she was unable to disclose details at the time.

Bestselling Author and Advocate

Yarros is a bestselling author with over 15 novels, including several that have topped the New York Times bestsellers list. Her works have garnered numerous starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and have been recognized as some of the best by Kirkus Reviews.

An authentic military aficionado, Yarros, a second-generation army brat, has a profound love for military heroes, a passion she shares with her husband of over 20 years. Amidst raising six children, they call Colorado home alongside their obstinate English bulldogs, lively chinchillas, and a dominant feline named Artemis.

Dedicated to making a difference, Yarros and her husband co-founded One October in 2019, a nonprofit aimed at assisting children within the foster system. Their commitment to this cause stems from their experience fostering and ultimately adopting their youngest daughter.

"Variation" is set to release on October 8 from Montlake, an imprint of Amazon Publishing, and is currently available for preorder at major book retailers.
