JK Rowling's New Book Aimed to Younger 'Harry Potter' Fans; After 'The Casual Vacancy' Reviews, Could Publish Another Adult Novel

For all those who liked the "Harry Potter" series, J.K. Rowling revealed she is coming out with a new children's book that will be aimed at Harry Potter fans.

According to Hollywood.com, at the Cheltenham Literature Festival in England on Saturday, Rowling said she is working on a new project for a younger audience.

"As the writer of Harry Potter, I'm always nervous of committing myself to another children's book, but yes, the next thing I write will be for children," Rowling said.

"I have a lot of things on my laptop currently, including a couple of things for children - for a slightly younger age group than Harry Potter was aimed at - which are nearly done and will, I think, be the next thing I publish. I have run them by my children and they seem to like them which is always a good sign.

"I also have some ideas for another book for adults but it isn't too far on (in development)."

This is exciting news for "Harry Potter" fans who want more magic in their life, as well as for those who loved (or didn't love) Rowling's new adult book, "The Casual Vacancy."

The new adult novel jumped to #1 on USA Today's bestseller list, bumping E.L. James popular sexy novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey."

"The Casual Vacancy" was published on Sept. 27 by Little, Brown.

According to Freep.com, Michael Pietsch, executive vice president and publisher of Little, Brown, Rowling's publisher, said Wednesday that "The Casual Vacancy has exceeded our expectations in its first six days in stores, selling 375,000 copies in all formats. We believe it is on track to become the year's best-selling novel in hardcover."

The 512-page book takes on prostitution, drug use and class, which results in mixed reviews and criticism. Many call it "dark," "gritty," and "controversial."

USA Today calls in a "dark tale."

"This is definitely not a book for children: suicide, rape, heroin addiction, beatings and thoughts of patricide percolate through its pages; there is a sex scene set in a cemetery, a grotesque description of a used condom ('glistening in the grass beside her feet, like the gossamer cocoon of some huge grub') and alarming scenes of violent domestic abuse." - Michiko Kakutani, New York Times

One "Harry Potter fan," Marie Malazarte, 30, a program assistant at the University of Central Florida College of Nursing, says the new novel "is dark and bleak, without the sense of hope or wonder" in Potter, according to Freep. Nevertheless, she "devoured" it last weekend.
