Galaxy Note 2 Release Date, Specs: New 'Phablets' LG Nexus 4, Sony Xperia Odin, HTC DLX, Droid Incredible Pose Huge Threat to Samsung Success

Many are excited to hear about the Galaxy Note 2.

The specs of Samsung's new "phablet" are what some are waiting to experience. It will feature a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED screen and a rear 8-megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash and front 1.9 megapixel CT camera. It has a 1.6 Ghz quad-core processor and 4G LTE data speeds. It is also expected to have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-installed and come with the S Pen experience and comes with up to 64GB of memory with 2GB RAM and a microSD slow up to 64GB.

However, it looks like other smartphone companies are seeing the hype and coming joining the "phablet" market.

The newest "phablet" making headlines is Sony's new Xperia Odin. The flagship phone was named after the one-eyed ruler of Asgard and Thor's dad.

According to Tapscape, rumors suggest that the phone will come in 2013. It will come in two variants, a 5-inch and a 6-inch model. The new device will have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, 1080p display and 2GB RAM.

The Odin will be under model numbers C6502, C6503, c6506, which suggests that it might have regional or carrier variants.

"With these specs, it could easily give the HTC DLX a run for its money and the 6-inch version will dwarf the already huge Samsung Galaxy Note 2," Tapscape said.

Another new competitor seems to be the LG Optimus G Nexus, also called the Nexus 4.

According to many reports, Google and LG will unveil the Nexus 4 smartphone on Oct. 29.

CNET said that the new phone will have a 4.7-inch display, quad-core 1.5 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 8-megapixel camera. Previous reports said that it will look similar to the Optimus G. Rumors also say that the handset will have Android 4.2, a new software version that's expected to be released soon, however, more reports point to it running on Android 4.1.2, carrying a model number of E960.

According to PCAdvisor, the release date for the Nexus 7 will be December in France.

The launch date coincides with Microsoft's launch of the Windows Phone 8.

"The move means that Google is doing the rounds for the Nexus smartphone after partnering with Samsung for the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S, and HTC for the Nexus One. Google joined forces with Asus to make the Nexus 7 tablet," PCAdvisor reported.

Many think the new HTC DLX, also known as the Droid Incredible X or HTX One X 5, will compete against the Galaxy Note 2.

The specs were revealed by Tapscape. It will have a Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5 Ghz processor, 5-inch display, 1.5 GB RAM, 16 GB Internal Storgare, a 12MP rear-facing camera, complemented by a 2MP shooter on the front, a massive 2,500mAh non-removable battery, and will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean right out the box. It will also have a full HD display.

Tapscape reported, "Looking at these specs, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is still the better device - a bigger battery, more RAM, a faster processor and a screen that's bigger by half an inch. However, HTC's been known to deliver some pretty solid and sexy looking smartphones so we're still curious as to what the HTC DLX will end up looking like and if it has any other surprise features that could convince users to pick it over the Samsung Galaxy Note 2."

In terms of release date, Gottabemobile reported Samsung will announce the Galaxy Note 2 on Oct. 24.

"The evidence points to this and the invitation that Samsung sent out makes it clear that this is what's on tap for that date in New York City. And from evidence we've seen, T-Mobile plans on launching the Galaxy Note 2 on October 24th. It's unclear if 'launch' means announce or release though," the website explained.

Samsung recently sent out invitations for an event that could be for the new "phablet."

In terms of carriers, along with T-Mobie, the other four carriers are AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular.
