Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7 Tablet vs Apple iPad Mini: With New Acer Iconia Tab A110 Release Date, Amazon Facing Touch Competition All Around

Amazon is not out of the hot water yet as it faces new competition with the Acer Iconia Tab A110.

Acer recently announced the A110, which features a 7-inch display with a 1,024 x 600 resolution. It will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with a NVIDIA Tegra 3 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor. It has 7.8GB internal storage and 32GB removable storage with 1 GB of RAM. It has a 3,420 mAh battery. It will be released on Oct. 30.

Reports say that the new Acer tablet is priced at $230, which is more than Amazon's Fire HD tablet which starts at $199 for a 7-inch. It's even more expensive than Google's Nexus 7, which is also priced at $199.

Another bad thing is the low resolution.

ZDNet reported, "Even worse, the resolution of the A110 display is only 1,024x600, which is now a drawback in a post-Retina Display world of pixel-packing. Couple that with a price tag -- $230 -- that is more than the $199 you can spend for the Nexus 7, Nook HD, or Kindle Fire HD, and it's really unclear what the value proposition is for the A110. (Even if you get the Kindle Fire HD without the special offers, it's still cheaper at $214.)"

The good thing is that it will run on Jelly Bean, unlike the Kindle Fire HD. According to Gottabemobile, the A110 can also export video to a TV or monitor using the MicroHDMI port which Google's Nexus 7 tablets don't have.

Wired.com said that while $230 is not much more than the competition, it "sure does feel like Acer is asking for a little bit more money for just a bit less tablet."

IGN.com writer Jon Fox said that the new Acer tablet will run the top Android tablet games for now but "they won't look as good on its display, and Acer's tablet will show its age before the Nexus 7 or Fire HD."

Well, Amazon might beat out the A110 tablet, but it has some other competition right around the corner.

Reports say that Apple may be planning to unveil their new iPad Mini at an event on Oct. 23. The tablet is highly anticipated by Apple customers. Some tech writers are saying that Apple will still beat Amazon despite their attempt at competing against Apple tablets with their new 8.9-inch HD tablets.

The new Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch comes with Dolby Audio, Dual-Band-Antenna Wi-Fi, and comes in 16GB or 32GB. There is also a 4G LTE Wireless tablet that comes in 32GB or 64GB. Both come with a 1920x1200 HD display with "polarizing filter and anti-glare technology for rich color and deep contrast from any viewing angle." It also comes with a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor with Imagination PowerVR 3D Graphics core.

On its website, Amazon claims that the Wi-Fi is 40 percent faster for downloads and streaming compared to the iPad 3. The larger tablets also give a cheaper option for the same great tablet performance than the iPad 3.

Another huge competitor is Google's Nexus 7 tablets.

According to Nasdaq, Richard Shim, an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch, said that Google is teaming up with Samsung to build a 10-inch version of the Nexus 7 tablet. The device is expected to ship before the end of 2012.

The new Nexus 10 tablet will feature a 10.1-inch display and the resolution is to reach 2,560x1,600 versus the iPad's resolution of 2,048x1,536. Shim also believes that the tablet will feature a 299ppi vs 264ppi for the iPad 3.

"It's going to be a high-end device," Shim told CNET, adding that Google will also produce a $99 tablet in December. New reports say that the $99 version of Nexus 7 will release by the end of 2012, which would give holiday buyers another tablet option, but cheaper.

The new Kindle Fire HD tablets recently got FCC approval to sell the 4G tablets. Many can pre-order their tablets, which Amazon plans to ship on Nov. 20.
