Minneapolis Bookbinder Jana Pullman wins 2013 Minnesota Book Artist Award

Jana Pullman, a book binder in Minneapolis was announced as 2013's recipient of the Minnesota Book Artist Award

Jana Pullman, a book binder in Minneapolis specializes in handmade end papers, fine books, bound in leather with gold leaf, leather-edged slipcases, hand-sewn silk end bands and hand-made boxes. This very creative artist has been announced to be the recipient of the 2013 Minnesota Book Artist Award.

According to a report on Star Tribune, she is a "book artist, printmaker, papermaker and book conservator, but she is best known for her exquisite bindings, which often incorporate both new materials and ancient processes."

Apart from a keen interest in bookbinding, Pullmam is a teacher at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and is a faculty member at the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul. While pursuing her BFA and MFA degrees in Art, Pullman discovered her love for books nad have been working with them ever since. She has been employed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at the University of Iowa where she worked with Jim Dast and Bill Anthony respectively.

Sponsored by Lerner Publications and presented by the Minnesota Book Awards and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, The Minnesota Book Artist Award, recognizes a Minnesota artist for excellence of artistic work and significant contributions to the books community.

Previous recipients of this award are Bridget O'Malley and Amanda Degener of Cave Paper; Regula Russelle, and Wilber H. Schilling.

The award will be presented April 13 at the Minnesota Book Awards gala in downtown St. Paul.
