Megan Ellison, Nina Jacobson To Produce Movie Adaptation Of 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette?'

Megan Ellison and Nina Jacobson have paired up to produce the movie adaptation of Maria Semple's novel "Where'd You Go, Bernadette?"

The best-selling novel tells the story of the disappearance of a secluded Los Angeles architect. The story revolves around how the architect's husband and daughter try to find her through letters, emails, texts and other written documents.

The press release announcing the union reads: "Told via letters, emails, texts, and other documents, Where'd You Go, Bernadette pieces together the story of a brilliant but slightly unhinged woman, a once-famous Los Angeles architect turned recluse, who abruptly disappears, leaving her Microsoft-guru husband and devoted eighth-grade daughter determined to find her...The film rights were negotiated by UTA and Anna Stein of Aitken Alexander for Semple. CAA negotiated on behalf of Neustadter and Weber, who are also represented by Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and attorney Sean Marks of Myman Greenspan."

"It is so rare to find a book that is as original as it is moving and whose storytelling is as innovative as its characters are rich.," Jacobson (right) said in a statement. "I'm very grateful to be collaborating with Megan Ellison to bring Maria's extraordinary book to the screen. We are off to a great start with Neustadter and Weber, whose voices and creative agility make them a perfect match for Bernadette."

The screenplay will be written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber who previously united to write "(500) Days of Summer."

Jacobson who was also the former head of Disney, now runs Color Force Productions, the production unit of the "The Hunger Games" franchise. Ellison who is the daughter of Oracle CEO, and the owner of Annapurna productions has financed some of Hollywood's most respected films, such as Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" and Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty".

"I can't think of two more impressive women than Nina Jacobson and Megan Ellison," Semple said in a statement. "I'm bouncy with excitement that they and the whole Color Force and Annapurna teams will be ushering Bernadette onto the big screen."
