On December 3, Warner Bros. screened the first 10 minutes of the film 'Dune 2' during the movie's CCXP panel in São Paulo, Brazil. Attendees were presented with a glimpse of the upcoming film, featuring several preview scenes and the initial 10 minutes. This preview approach is nothing new, as special screenings showcasing the first 10 minutes of Dune: Part One were also done in 2021.

The highly anticipated sequel, 'Dune 2,' opens with a nod to the original story, adding a new touch to a classic scene from the book. Originally slotted for a November release, Warner Bros. postponed it to March 2024 because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Now that the strike is over, key actors such as Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya can actively discuss the movie, and promotion has recommenced.

First 10 Minutes of Dune: Part 2 Explained

The opening scene of Dune: Part Two brings to life a much-anticipated moment for fans: the depiction of Princess Irulan's (Florence Pugh) diaries. The film opens with her narration, detailing events from the first movie and recording her impressions on a device. She recounts the downfall of House Atreides, asserting there were no survivors. Subsequently, she encounters her father, Emperor Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken). The Princess notes her father's prolonged silence, expressing her frustration with his apparent passivity. Irulan speculates on the possible involvement of House Harkonnen in the Emperor's behavior.

Concurrently, Glossu (Dave Bautista) receives honor from the Harkonnen for his stealth invasion of the Atreides house, and Paul awakens in the desert. Chani and her team come to his rescue, thwarting assailants sent to target the Fremen. Summoning a giant worm, the assailants attempt to flee, but an unknown force violently eliminates them one by one.

In the additional two scenes revealed to the attendees, Paul and Chani share an intimate moment while seated in the heart of the desert at sunset. During this encounter, Paul recounts stories about rain and the sea, prompting Chani's disbelief that water could descend from the sky in such abundance that one could submerge in it. Despite these differences in their realities, they forge a connection.

Finally, the Fremen put Paul to an ultimate challenge: riding the sandworm. Under the guidance of Stilgar (Javier Bardem), who advises him not to take unnecessary risks, Paul ascends to a dune. He employs the Thumper to summon a substantial sandworm. Although he initially struggles to maintain balance, he succeeds, leading to a joyful celebration among the Fremen.

What Sets Dune: Part 2 Apart from the First Movie

The opening scene of 'Dune: Part One' starts with a voiceover from Chani (Zendaya), deviating from the source material in which Princess Irulan makes the opening narration. This intentional change altered the storytelling approach, emphasizing the Fremen and shifting the narrative perspective. As 'Dune: Part Two' is set to debut in 2024, the film's opening will pay homage to the original book's opening. However, the narration is expected to undergo a different take this time.

In this sequel, the relationship between Paul and Chani will significantly evolve. As seen in the first movie, Chani appears only in Paul's dreams, and their characters unite during the concluding scenes of Dune.
