Rick Singleton released a book about the eleven-day manhunt for Casey White and Vicky White in 2022. Singleton served as the sheriff of Lauderdale County until early this year. Titled 'Manhunt: The Search for Vicky and Casey White: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly,' the paperback is now available on Amazon and has quickly risen to the #1 spot in the Criminal Procedure Law category for new releases.

Despite not being a professional writer, Singleton shared that his interest in preserving local history prompted him to write this project after retiring this year. Singleton is amazed by how people are reacting to his book. 250 to 275 copies were sold just from his Facebook page, as mentioned by Singleton.

Vicky and Casey White's Prison Escape

The manhunt began when Vicky White let Casey White out of the detention center. Vicky worked at the Detention Center in Alabama for sixteen years. According to ABC News, Casey White is serving 75 years and awaiting trial for a 2015 crime spree, which includes multiple shooting incidents, a home invasion, and two cases of car-jacking.

The two share no relation. Vicky, who had been a great employee with a clean record, surprised everyone by helping him escape. The escape happened on April 29, 2022. The pair is assumed to have formed a romantic connection.

The two were on the run for eleven days, and it became big news all over the country and even internationally. With no clear leads for the first six hours, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office and the United States Marshals Service Gulf States Regional Fugitive Task Force started working hard to find them. The dramatic search concluded on May 9, 2022, in Evansville, Indiana, where the couple was apprehended by law enforcement. Unfortunately, Vicky White died the next day because she shot herself in the head when law enforcement stopped them.

The Sheriff's Perspective and the Aftermath

In May 2023, Casey White pleaded guilty to first-degree escape, receiving a life sentence. Consequently, a capital murder charge related to Vicky White's death was dropped. In July 2023, lawyers asked to drop the serious charge against White for Connie Ridgeway's death in 2015.

The book, described on Amazon as Sheriff Rick Singleton's personal account of the escape, pledges to tell the whole story, covering both the good and the bad parts. The description highlights Singleton's commitment to transparency during press conferences and credits the media for their significant role in the successful resolution of the case.

This book serves as a valuable addition to the historical documentation of law enforcement efforts, offering readers a detailed perspective on the captivating events surrounding the 2022 manhunt. The book aims to serve as a historical record for future generations, providing insights into the sheriff's perspective during this notable event.
