Data from Circana BookScan revealed a 4.2% increase in print sales of adult fiction books in the first half of 2023, with BookTok significantly driving this surge. According to industry analysts and literary agents, while the pace of growth may have slowed, BookTok remains a vital discovery engine for new writers. 

For individuals like Coco Hagi and Ben Mercer, BookTok has been more than just a platform; it is a space where personal connections and career opportunities have flourished. Hagi, a hijab-wearing Muslim from Leicester, found representation and friendship within the BookTok community. Mercer, a former rugby player, wrote "Fringes: Life on the Edge of Professional Rugby' 'and successfully promoted the book by engaging with fellow book enthusiasts on the platform.

As the influence of BookTok influencers grows, concerns about authenticity and the potential for a decline in literary quality have surfaced. Influencers like Hagi and Mercer stressed the importance of honesty and genuine recommendations, acknowledging that the BookTok community can easily detect insincerity.
