Sara Bareilles Gets Candid With New Book 'Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song’

Sara Bareilles tells her story in a different medium. The Grammy-nominated singer is set to publish her first book, "Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song," Entertainment Weekly reports. The singer's debut memoir contains her collection of essays about the ups and downs of building her career, finding her own sound and achieving balance between making music and money in the business. She also details the stories behind her hit songs, and what inspired her to write them along the way. Publisher Simon and Schuster announced the book deal back in 2012.

In a press release about her upcoming book, Bareilles shares that she felt "more vulnerable" when talking about her personal life "without the metaphor and mask of music or my singing voice." The singer adds that she learned to be more candid when writing the book, saying, "I tried to be candid. I tried to remember things in an unbiased way. I tried to be at least a little funny. "Sounds Like Me" is a collection of stories about my own self-discovery."

The singer hopes that with the book, people would get to know and understand her more. She says, "Each essay is anchored by a song that helped me build a deeper understanding of who I am as an artist and person," the singer explained. The book's introduction, written by Ben Folds of Ben Folds Five, shares that the "book, like her songs, is having a conversation with the lady herself."

The 35 year-old proudly shared the cover of her book via Twitter, saying, "Writing this book was hard. Sharing the cover is not. I'm a proud mama today!" The cover shows Bareilles clad in a red shirt and blue pants, surrounded with colorful megaphones.

Bareilles rose to fame in 2007 with her chart-topping hit song "Love Song". She then continued her steady rise up the musical ladder with her other hits including "Bottle It Up", "King of Anything", Uncharted", and "Gonna Get Over You", in which actor Jonah Hill directed the music video. In 2013, Bareilles released her latest album entitled "The Blessed Unrest" and was once again nominated in the 2014 Grammy Awards for Album of the Year.

The singer, who is known to write honest and pure pop ballads, shared in a previous interview with CBS that despite her looking "nice" and "sweet," she will definitely let you know how she feels about you. "I swear like a sailor. I find great joy in being a little bit sassy and crass, and -- I don't know, going against the grain a little bit. I find a lot of joy in that," Bareilles said.

"Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song" hits bookshelves Oct. 6.
