Kickstarter Campaign Launched for "Fat Kid Rules the World"

We love stories about underdogs. We think most people with a heart enjoy seeing a character who is down and out become a winner. Since most kids have a heart (secretly, even the bullies do), "Fat Kid Rules the World," a young adult novel published by American author KL Going was hugely popular when it was first published in 2003 and it has since continued to win the hearts of kids around the world.

The book is about a 296 pound teenage boy named Troy Billings who is suicidal. But thanks to a chance meeting with a homeless, former student from his school, his life is changed. The book opens with the former student, Curt McCrae saving Troy as he is about to jump off the edge of a subway platform. Curt tells Troy that he has to pay him back for saving his life by forming a punk rock band with him. They name their band Rage/Tetonic and soon Troy's confidence begins to soar. Yet, he realizes that the real way to pay back the favor to Curt is by saving him from drug addiction.

Now the film version of the book is trying to make it to the big screen. The film has already been made by Whitewater Films but it has yet to be picked up by a distributor. Huh? How is that possible? We can't think of a more suitable time to release a movie of this sort since there's heightened national awareness on bullying and "misfits" are becoming a bit cooler thanks to all the geeks ruling the word (read: Mark Zuckerberg.) Despite our disbelief on the film having no takers, the truth remains and so the filmmakers are taking matters into their own hands by raising funds through Kickstarter and distributing the film themselves.
