'Suicide Squad' Official Movie Trailer & Cast: The Joker Won't Kill, But Would Hurt 'Really, Really Bad'

To the tune of a slow, eerie version of the Bee Gees classic hit "I Started a Joke," a three-minute trailer for the highly anticipated DC Comics movie adaptation, "Suicide Squad," delivered a comprehensive first look at the band of incredibly dangerous, imprisoned super-villains.

The lengthy promo for the film that houses the record number of bad guys opened up with Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), the head of a super-secret government agency called ARGUS. In the scene, she informs her associates over dinner about her new evil recruits. In "Suicide Squad," Waller assembles a team of the most dangerous criminals in a bid to help the planet they so diligently hoped to destroy.

In the trailer [check it out below], Enchantress (Cara Delevingne) was shown exploring a cave, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) doing some intricate yoga poses inside her prison cell, Deadshot (Will Smith) battering a punching bag and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) showing off his reptilian glory.

The next scenes seemingly showed the group in action, and, interestingly, more yoga action from Harley. There were glimpses of emotional moments as well, only to be punctuated with explosions, marching armies of gun-wielding men and Harley, this time messing with Batman.

The highlight of the "Suicide Squad" trailer was The Joker (Jared Leto), who wasn't shown until the end of the video. In his own manic fashion, the clown-clad killer assured an unfortunate individual that he won't kill him. "I'm just going to hurt you really, really bad," the violent madman promised.

Just recently, a low-quality version of the same footage was leaked when it was shown during the San Diego Comic-Con. This is what ultimately led Warner Bros. to release (with regret) a high-definition version of the "Suicide Squad" trailer ahead of its supposed outing.

In a statement released by the company (picked up by Entertainment Weekly), Sue Kroll, Warner Bros. president of worldwide marketing and international distribution, said that the plan was to "keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic-Con crowd."

"Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed," Kroll said, adding that their massive efforts to prevent such leak were to no avail.

Warner Bros was left with no choice but to release the trailer as the company "cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation." This is why the "Suicide Squad" trailer is now here to be feasted.

In a tweet last Monday, director David Ayer, also confirmed the release of the rumored trailer.

"Suicide Squad" will hit the theaters August 5, 2016. Variety quotes Smith guaranteeing the Comic-Con crowd that the film will be "absolutely fantastic" and that director David Ayer's retelling of the villainous posse is "the real deal."
