Unleash the Writer in You! 5 Important Tips From Successful Authors

There's a writer in everyone, but not all people know hot to discover it. It all starts with a blank page.

Some writers spend hours on thinking about which topic to write about. Some of them almost have the work all finished when they realize they have to start over again.

To most writers, starting out is the tricky part. Here are five important tips from successful authors for aspiring writers:

1. Read. Read a lot.

In the book "Madeleine L'Engle" by Aaron Rosenberg, Madeleine has important suggestions for people who want to write. Her advice reads, "...you need to read. You can't be a writer if you're not a reader. It's the great writers who teach us how to write."

2. Get out and see the world.

Most people have this impression that writers are locked up in offices, shutting out the world and scribbling words all day long.

Paul Theroux once told The Atlantic, "Your mother will not make you a writer. My advice to any young person who wants to write is: leave home." Theroux explained that writing is not like skating or skiing, which requires time, training, practice and effort.

Writing requires more than that. It requires inspiration and fresh outlook. It requires the writer to get out of the comfort of home and experience things out there.

3. There's no right and wrong when writing the first draft.

"Write. Start writing today. Start writing right now. Don't write it right, just write it -and then make it right later," said Tara Moss, as quoted in "Advice Quotes" by Dr. Purushothaman.

There is no "perfect" in the world of pen and paper. Writing is a long process of making mistakes, rewriting, making changes, and rewriting again. This is shows one characteristic that every writer must have: patience.

4. Ignore everything. Just write.

Where there are writers, there are critics. According to Anne Rice, "Anybody can be a critic. Writers are priceless." Good critics can shape writers to be better in their job. However, writers should write from what is inside them and not from what others expect of them.

As Anne said, "Write the book you have been trying to find but have not found."

5. Become a new author. Introduce a unique and fresh writing into the world.

People can read a lot of books for years. However, the only thing it teaches readers is how to write. What to write is another thing. It should come completely from the author mind and heart.

Author Neil Gaiman said, as quoted in "Inspiration and Motivation for Writers" by Chloe Henderson, "Start telling stories that only you can tell, because there'll always be better and smarter writers than you, but you are the only you."
