Evelyn Lozada Said Chad Johnson 'Needs Help;' Wants to Help Other Women Break Silence on Domestic Violence

Evelyn Lozada breaks silence about her estranged husband's sexual abuse.

The reality star issued her first statement Tuesday since football player Chad Johnson's arrest for allegedly head-butting her. The altercation took place in the Miami area Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

Lozada said in the statement:

"It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I'm grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time."

CNN reported that on the day of the altercation, Lozada got into a now highly publicized discussion with Johnson over a receipt for a box of condoms, which allegedly led to Johnson head-butting Lozada.

The couple, who have been featured on VH1's "Basketball Wives," married in early July and intended to showcase their nuptials and preparation leading up to the big day in their own show called "Ev & Ocho."

The program was set to air in September, according to CNN, but VH1 announced Monday that "Ev & Ocho" has been pulled from the network's calendar and that the network "has no current plans of airing it."

Lozada's brother-in-law, Anthony Ochoa, died Monday night after a lengthy fight against cancer, CNN reported. Ochoa was married to Lozada's sister, Sylvia, and walked Lozada down the aisle when she wed Johnson in July.

The Associated Press reported that Johnson was cut from the Miami Dolphins the day after his arrest.
