Joe Jonas Reveals New Taylor Swift Breakup Song Is Not About Him; Already Tops iTunes

Taylor released her latest single, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" on Monday from her upcoming "Red" album.

The pop tune was about the country star's relationship with an ex-boyfriend (the song's reference to "an indie record that's much cooler than mine").

"It's a really romantic song," Swift, 22, said sarcastically of the tune, which went on sale via iTunes and Google Play immediately after the live YouTube chat with fans on Monday. It was "really touching and sensitive" to her "lovely ex-boyfriend."

Many reports hinted that it might have been about John Mayer.

Joe Jonas, who dated Swift in 2008, recently ruled himself out of the possible heartbreakers.

"I can say it's not about me, because I don't think we've ever tried [getting back together for] another time, so..." Joe said during a 94.7 Fresh FM interview, when asked if the song is about him, according to Access Hollywood. "I can tell you it's not about me!"

Access Hollywood reported that though the singers initially parted on bad terms (Joe reportedly dumped Taylor during an under-30-second phone call), the JoBro said they've made peace and keep in touch "as much as we can."

"I haven't really spoken to her recently, but I was able to go to her concert last year, and her show live is so phenomenal," he added. "I would say anybody should go see it if they have a chance. I think we're cool."

Other possible candidates from Swift's list of celebrity loves include Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer, and Taylor Lautner.

The new record has already shot to the top of iTunes in 25 countries, according to Reuters. It will have a record digital sales debut on next week's Billboard chart.

Billboard said on Wednesday that the infectiously catchy song was already among the 40 most-played tunes on U.S. radio just two days after being released.

The song went to the top of iTunes in the United States just an hour after it was released on Monday, and has since reached No. 1 in Australia, Canada, Brazil, Finland and 20 other nations.

That could make "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" the biggest debut for a digital song by a female artist if Swift surpasses the 448,000 download mark set by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" single in February 2011.

The album "Red" will have 16 songs and will feature a duet with Englishman Ed Sheeran, who performed at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.

"Ed and I wrote a song while sitting on a trampoline that was so much fun and we loved so much that we actually ended up recording it as a duet," said Swift.

She spent her last few months working on a follow-up to her incredibly successful "Speak Now World Tour" that sold out stadiums and arenas in 19 countries. She plans to release those details at a later date.

"Red" is her first LP album since 2010's "Speak Now." It will release on Oct. 22, 2012.
