The anticipation for "Reacher" season 3 is building, and fans have something to be excited about. The chosen book for the upcoming season suggests that another cameo of the beloved character Finlay is possible. Season 2 of "Reacher," which adapted Lee Child's "Bad Luck and Trouble," was a hit. Still, some missed the chemistry between Roscoe, Finlay, and Reacher from the first season.

Characters like Finlay and Roscoe only appeared in specific books in the "Jack Reacher" book series. However, season 2 defied this norm, surprising fans with Finlay's unexpected cameo in episode 4. Instead of retiring, as suggested in the Season 1 finale, Finlay reappeared as a Lieutenant in Boston, aiding Reacher in a crucial moment.

Season 3 Will Adapt 'Persuader'

Amazon announced that the third season of "Reacher" is set to adapt "Persuader," the seventh book in Child's series. Interestingly, this season retains its setting in Maine but with an opening passage in Boston. Alan Ritchson, who plays the main character Reacher, confirmed in an Instagram post that the third season will maintain this setting. This development differs from season 2, which shifted the setting from Los Angeles to New York. This change opens up exciting possibilities for Finlay's return, considering his ties to the Boston police force.

Finlay's unexpected return in season 2 signaled a willingness to break away from the source material's limitations. The pivotal events of the novel present an opportunity for Reacher to cross paths with Finlay again. While Finlay does not have a role in the original book, a similar situation occurs in "Bad Luck and Trouble."

Neagley's Return Sets a Precedent

In season 2, viewers also saw the return of Neagley, a character not originally part of "Bad Luck and Trouble." The conclusion of "Reacher" season 2 suggests that Reacher will likely maintain a connection with his close friend Neagley. Maria Sten is set to reprise her role in "Reacher" season 3, even though Neagley is not featured in "Persuader." Given the narrative's connections to Reacher's military history, incorporating Neagley into the storyline is plausible.

Neagley has not appeared in the source material for the first season, yet the show successfully introduced her character. The decision to bring Neagley back for season 3 demonstrates the series' willingness to adapt "Persuader" creatively.

Roscoe's Return Unlikely

While fans are eager for Finlay's return, the fate of Roscoe's character is more uncertain. "Reacher" season 3 might pose challenges fitting Roscoe into the storyline. This season's geographical distance and solo adventure focus might make it trickier to include certain characters.

The show creators face the delicate task of balancing fan expectations with narrative authenticity. While Finlay's return aligns with the potential opportunities presented in the chosen book, including characters like Roscoe might require careful and creative handling to make sense of the storyline.

The choice to adapt "Persuader" hints at a broader approach to character continuity, and viewers are eager to see how the show will surprise them once again. The return of Finlay is on the horizon, and it is shaping up to be another thrilling chapter in the "Reacher" series.

The third season is currently in its filming stage in Toronto. While waiting for its premiere, you can stream "Reacher" on Amazon Prime Video.
