'The Maze Runner' Author James Dashner Takes Series to Next Level Via Twitter Adventure #ScorchMaze

Followers of James Dashner's bestselling book series "Maze Runner" can now get into some real action with a new adventure cooked up by the writer himself on Twitter. The exclusive interactive quest is called #ScorchMaze, where fans get to choose their own path.

The adventure, as described in the Maze Runner website, starts off with "Thomas and the Gladers traveling fast through the Scorch." In no time, they will arrive at the post-apocalyptic city. "To reach the safe haven on the other side, the Gladers must first cross this vast metropolis, heaving with infected people called Cranks," the page read.

The goal of the fans is to descend to the "dangerous and terrifying" tunnels of the Underneath before Thomas and the Gladers managed to get there. Players will be joined Brenda and Jorge as they go about this exciting mission, but it will be entirely up to the fans how the game, which was set up with various endings, culminates.

"You're instantly faced with difficult choices. You must decide where James Dashner's brand new adventure will take you," the website further reads. The ending of the game will be based on the choices the players make so they have to choose wisely.

The Guardian sees #ScorchMaze as a deviation to the nature of dystopian fiction, which it described as something that almost always leaves the readers "helpless and mentally exhausted." Of course, there remains the pressure of running against time and the fact that there's no escape from this jumble.

What Dashner wants players to do is "Remember. Survive. Run." But the author boosts their will to win by putting up a prize. Apart from the fun of going on an adventure with characters of the book series, lucky fans in the UK will also get the chance to have their name appear in the upcoming installment of the saga titled "The Fever Code."

All they have to do is finish the #ScorchMaze, retweet the final message and favorite select tweets throughout the game. Fans can participate in the contest until Oct. 19, 2015. Interested players can find out more details on the Terms and Conditions page of the website.

"As an author and fan of Twitter, it's been great creating a different kind of story idea for people to explore online and on their phones for free," Dashner said as quoted by The Guardian.

Many more exciting things are coming to "Maze Runners" fans' way. Apart from #ScorchMaze, they will be treated to a new set of covers for all four books in the series. In addition, "The Scorch Trials" movie is also hitting the theaters tomorrow, Sept 10.
