iPod Touch 6th Generation Release News: What's New? Official Price List, Specs & Features Here!

A revamped iPod Touch is finally here. For so long, the rumor mill has been speculating the coming of what it calls the 6th generation iPod Touch. While Apple wouldn't call the new device as such for its minimal modifications, it is still exciting that the tech giant hasn't forgotten its beloved music player.

According to Wall Street Journal, the new iPod Touch, which has been released three years after the last one, is outfitted with the very same chip in iPhone 6, an A8 processor, although Apple Insider notes that the chipset was clocked at lower speeds than that of the smartphone.

Despite the underclocked chip, based on the benchmarks ran by Techcrunch, it is more than enough to power up the device and to keep this going since the iPod Touch is basically an iPhone without the qualities and functions of an actual smartphone.

Walls Street Journal also adds that the new-fangled portable music player is 10 times snappier in terms of graphic performance and fitness tracking is now on board. According to Yahoo, part of the makeover is the imaging department with the device now boasting an 8MP iSight camera and an improved FaceTime shooter.

The limitations of the iPod Touch is that it isn't capable of connecting to a wireless network from a carrier, but that's what the iPhones are partly for. The aforementioned publication reports that this portable gadget support Wi-Fi connection, allowing users to access the Apple Music streaming app.

As per Time, the spanking new iPod Touch offers storage space as little as 16GB and 32GB, which are priced $199 and $249. There are also 64GB and 128GB flavors, which users can get for $299 and $399 respectively.

Apple also added more color options for the music player, with units dipped in space gray, silver, gold, pink and blue now available. Wall Street Journal says that the iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle have been updated with these hues as well.

Although the iPod Touch is just one of Apple's "other products" that gets the smallest slice of the Cupertino-based company's attention (partly because it is one of those that provide the tech firm the least amount of dough), Time says that Apple owes its now untouchable status to the music player. Wall Street Journal adds that the iPod Touch is also a great way for Apple to extend the reach of the iOS beyond smartphones and tablets.

The new iPod Touch was made available yesterday and is now on sale.
