'The Jungle Book' 2016 Release Date, Cast & Plot: What to Expect From Movie

Sean Bailey, president of the production at Walt Disney, announced the upcoming film "The Jungle Book" in August at the D23 Expo, reports Entertainment Weekly.

"We strive to both honor what's come before while saying something new. And with this title, the bar is very, very high," he said, as quoted in the same article. "We're excited to reimagine these classic and timeless tales in a modern way."

He also mentioned that the upcoming live-action adaptation of 1967 classic animated film will be among the most technologically advanced movies ever made.

"The Jungle Book" is a classic collection of stories written by Rudyard Kipling that deeply explores Indian culture and adventure.

The most loved story would be about the "man cub" Mowgli, who was orphaned and raised by the wolves.

The popular characters include Bagheera the Panther, who was boldness and cunning; Kaa the Python, who bears a cool and hungry mind; Baloo the Bear, who is the Law keeper; and the most feared enemy, Shere Khan the Tiger.

Another popular story in the book includes "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi", the adventure of a brave young mongoose adopted by a family to protect against cobras.

The upcoming live-adaptation film will star young actor Neel Sethi in his first acting role.

"Neel has tremendous talent and charisma. There is a lot riding on his little shoulders and I'm confident he can handle it," Variety quoted Jon Favreau, the director of the upcoming film.

The film would rely heavily on technology as the story involves more animals than people. The young actor Sethi would be the only human actor acting live.

The other actors lending their voices include Bill Murray as Baloo, Lupita Nyong'o as an Indian wolf, Scarlett Johannson as Kaa, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera and Idris Elba as Shere Khan.

Other members of the cast include Christopher Walken, Emjay Anthony, Ralph Ineson and Giancarlo Esposito.

Recently, the live-action film adaptations of Disney's classic animated feature films keep on coming.

Josh Gad recently announced the production of live-action "Beauty and the Beast" has wrapped up, as he posted on his Instagram.

Aladdin, Tinkerbell, Mulan and Prince Charming are also getting live-action film adaptations. Moreover, "Aladdin" would revolve around the story of the Genie and would be entitled "Genies".

The film about Prince Charming, on the other hand, would center on the life of the younger brother of the Crown Prince, overlooked and unnoticed in the shadows of his older brother.

Disney's "The Jungle Book" is hitting U.S. theaters on April 15, 2016.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. would be releasing "Jungle Book: Origins", which had been set for release one year ahead of the original date, Variety reports.

The film is now to be released on October 6, 2017. It will feature the voice talents of Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale and Jack Reynor.
