'Fifty Shades of Grey' Sells 60 Million Copies Worldwide: Publishing House Awards Employees With $5000 Bonus

Owing to the grand success of E.L. James erotic novel "Fifty Shades Of Grey", the book's publishing house Random House has announced a bonus of $5000 for all its employees.

Sex sells and sometimes the rewards can be greater than expected. E.L James erotic book was an instant success and the author in not the only one enjoying the fruit of the hard work put into the making of this book. The book's publisher Random House has announced in a statement that its employees all over "Canada and the United States will each receive a $5,000 bonus cheque on Thursday as a "thank you" for a lucrative publishing year."

The book has up to date, sold 6o million copies worldwide. Not just that, other books published by Random House like Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Wild by Cheryl Strayed and The Racketeer by John Grisham have also fared pretty well.

"This is a one-time special thank you for a great 2012," Random House U.S. spokesman Stuart Applebaum told the Toronto Star.

"To my long recollection, this is the first time we have done something of this scope and magnitude."

"A few thousand Random House employees in the U.S. and 170 in Canada will see their bonuses in this Thursday's paycheques," Random House Canada spokeswoman Tracey Turriff said.

"Everyone from the CEO to the staff in the operating centres will each receive the same amount," said Applebaum.

While the book has been published in 31 languages, the bonus is a "North American initiative," said Turriff.

The company announced that employees who have been with them for the whole year will receive $5000 each while new employees will be pro-rated and given bonuses accordingly.
