Sarah J. Maas enthusiasts are in for a delightful surprise with an early preview of the highly awaited "House of Flame and Shadow." The bestselling author pleasantly shocked her audience by revealing the prologue and first chapter on her website five days before the scheduled book release on January 30.

Continuation From Book Two's Shocking Ending

The released chapters continue the narrative immediately following the intense ending of the second book. Following a startling revelation about the parasitic Asteri, Bryce Quinlan ends up in Prythian with the Inner Circle. This crossover event connects the story to another cherished Maas series, "A Court of Thorns and Roses."

The prologue delves into the aftermath of Bryce's mate, Hunt Athalar, and brother, Ruhn Danaan, being captured and tortured by the Hind. Meanwhile, the first chapter unveils the events following the meeting between Azriel, Rhysand, and Bryce.

The 'Crescent City' Series

Maas' "Crescent City" series follows half-Fae and half-human Bryce. Bryce seeks revenge in a modern fantasy realm filled with magic, danger, and passionate romance.

In the initial installment, "House of Earth and Blood," Bryce's life veers into darkness as a demon takes the lives of her dearest friends. The incident leaves her wounded and alone. Although the accused is imprisoned, the crimes continue, and Bryce is determined to seek justice. Teaming up with an angel named Hunt, Bryce sets out to uncover the truth behind the crimes and prevent more lives from being lost.

In the second book, "House of Sky and Breath," the story unfolds further, with Bryce handling the consequences of the events in the first book. Bryce and Hunt aim to go back to a more normal life after their heroic actions in saving Crescent City. The Asteri have kept their promise, leaving Bryce and Hunt undisturbed. However, as rebels challenge the Asteri's authority, the danger from the rulers intensifies. Relationships deepen, and the stakes become even higher as Bryce and her allies confront powerful enemies and uncover the hidden histories of their world.

The third installment promises to continue the narrative as Bryce faces the consequences of the choices made in the previous books. For an early glimpse of Crescent City book three, eager readers can head to Maas' official website and dive into the captivating world she has crafted. "House of Flame and Shadow" will hit bookstores on January 30.

Upcoming Release

Earlier this year, Bloomsbury Publishing announced plans to launch seven new books by author Sarah J. Maas starting this year. The British book publisher achieved impressive first-half earnings of £136.7 million. A significant factor contributing to this success is the rising popularity of fantasy fiction, with Maas playing a substantial role in this trend. Penny Scott-Bayfield, Bloomsbury's chief financial officer, stated that Maas is a strong author who continuously gains a broader readership.
