The TV show adaptation of "Fourth Wing" is currently in the works with Amazon MGM Studios. "Fourth Wing" was released on May 2 and quickly gained 1 billion views on related TikTok hashtags. It shot to the top of the New York Times Bestseller list, where it stayed for 25 weeks, 13 of those weeks as the number one spot.

The central theme of "Fourth Wing" revolves around Violet Sorrengail, a 20-year-old woman entering her first year in Rider Quadrant at Basgiath War College. Her crucial mission involves bonding with a dragon and training to become a dragon rider. The success of this endeavor determines her ability to join the fight in the ongoing war within her kingdom.

As with other TV adaptations, some adjustments and alterations to the source material are expected. One notable scene that the TV adaptation should omit is the scene after Violet forms a bond with her dragon, Tairn.

Disconcerting Scene: Violet and Tairn's Telepathic Bond

One potential alteration involves a scene where Violet, bonded with Tairn, unexpectedly experiences his intimate moments with his dragon mate, Sgaeyl. The discomfort arises from issues of consent as Tairn fails to warn Violet or seek her permission before sharing these private moments, creating tension in the narrative.

Violet does not want to experience Tairn's desires, even if it adds tension to her relationship with Xaden Riorsan in "Fourth Wing." The book downplays the issue, advising Violet to block it out.

The book provides insights into how dragons function but tend to be secretive. Understanding that Tairn and Sgaeyl are mated and inseparable implies a physical relationship, eliminating the need for Violet and Xaden to witness it indirectly. While dragons have their unique behaviors, being bonded to humans implies they should maintain some privacy in certain aspects of their lives.

Another reason why this scene should be removed is because it does not significantly contribute to the story's depth or character dynamics. It might have increased the tension between Violet and Xaden. However, this tension existed before Violet encountered dragon intimacy through Tairn.

Adaptation Opportunities: Changes for a Richer Narrative

While the book highlights the mental bond between dragons and riders, the TV adaptation could delve deeper into this dynamic. Tairn, the dragon, could be portrayed as more communicative with Violet, offering insights into the private lives of dragons without becoming overly expository.

The "Fourth Wing" series could explore further why dragons bond with humans, delve into their motivations, and uncover why they grant riders signet power after bonding. While the series revolves around dragon and rider relationships, it does not dedicate enough time to them in the book, as dragons are often separated from their riders. The TV adaptation could showcase more interactions between dragons and their riders.

Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to "Fourth Wing" and its sequel, "Iron Flame." With the announcement of the TV adaptation, many are eager to learn about its release date, the development team, cast members, and other relevant details. Casting details are yet to be announced, and discussions around potential changes to the source material have sparked fans' curiosity.
