New X-Men Comic Has an All-Women Line Up of Superheroes

The new X-Men comic has an all-women line-up of mutant superheroes, reveals a report by The Guardian.

Writer Brian Wood releases the all new X-Men comic series in April and has reportedly replaced all the men superheroes with women mutant superheroes. They include characters like Storm, Psylocke, Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, Rachel Grey and Rogue. According to the publisher Marvel, all these women superheroes are chosen from a "plethora of greats" and are an "iconic and dynamic cast."

Wood says that writing such a comic is a job that he could only "dream of getting." Explaining why all the men in the series have been replaced by women he says, ""I've always written female characters, going all the way back to my first book ever, and I'm known for it. But that aside, the X-Men are full of truly excellent female characters. I would say that on balance, the women rule the men in the x-world, hands down," he said. "It's a real anomaly in comics, and I think it's what makes the X-Men both special and successful - and appealing to all genders and all types. You can see this reflected in the fan base. So I get great women to write, complicated, complex, multi-faceted, flawed, wonderfully relatable characters, and here is this series where all that can shine. It's a no-brainer, I think, and anyone ready to dismiss it is missing what the X-Men is all about."

Entertainment Weekly approved of the all women line-up, saying that "the all-female angle will definitely make X-Men an interesting read", but added that "a sceptic might point out that this would have been a great opportunity to hand a big franchise to a female creator, grumble grumble".
