The day was originally intended to be a simple book-signing following the recent release of her new book, but Kim Kardashian got more than what she expected.

After her book, "Selfish", was released, Kardashian, 34, set out a book-signing event at a Barnes and Nobles bookstore in New York for her fans. But what started out as a simple event, turned to be an avenue for anti-fur activists to let the media star know how they feel about her use of fur, Us Magazine reports.

"I just want to say you're the most disgusting human being on this planet," says one of the activists as Kardashian signs copies of her new coffee-table book. At first, Kardashian smiled at the guy, but as more and more angry protesters came in the bookstore, she had no choice but to ignore them and let her security handle the situation. "Shame on you for supporting the the fur industry!" the same guy yelled.

Another man came up to Kardashian, asking, "Can you make it out to all the animals that have been tortured and killed for you to wear a fur?" as Mrs. West signs his copy of her book. As the protesters are escorted out of the event, they continued to chant "Murderer! Murderer!" pertaining to the star. But Kardashian remained seated, smiling while signing copies of her book.

Kardashian has been under the scrutiny of anti-fur organizations because of her preferences for designer clothing that makes use of real animal fur, including a coat made of crystal fox fur that she made her daughter, North, wear during the New York Fashion Week last February, reports the Daily Mail last March.

Fashion labels such as Chanel, Fendi, and Cushnie Et Ochs have used real animal fur for their winter collections. However, other designers have been more sympathetic for animal rights, such as Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Vivienne Westwood, and Stella McCartney. "Comfy? Warm? The very idea leaves me cold," McCartney said in a previous interview with columnist Liz Jones, via Daily Mail.

But while some designers are very vocal about their abhorrence to fur, designers like Jason Wu, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs "were not ashamed" for using animal fur.

In a world of vegan diets and sustainable organic lifestyles, it seems that the fashion industry's continued patronage to fur factories that kill almost 75 million animals a year, sends a powerful message -- that fur is here to stay. And for the anti-fur activists, Kardashian is no less than a murderer, who is willing to sacrifice lives for a coat.
