'The Walking Dead' Comic Book Creator Robert Kirkman Expected to Work on 'Transformers' Franchise

After Paramount's announcement that their blockbuster franchise, "Transformers," is once again in the works, Robert Kirkman is the latest name to be added among the well-known sci-fi writers to join the project Variety reports. Kirkman is best known for creating the comic series, "The Walking Dead." He has also been actively involved in the TV series based on his work.

Kirkman will join Akiva Goldsman, along with "Iron Man 3" writers Art Marcum and Matt Halloway, Zak Penn who worked on "Pacific Rim" and Jeff Pinkner of "Amazing Spider-Man 2" in creating the "Transformers" spin-off, which is reported to be multi-movie venture for Paramount, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

The last "Transformers" film, "Transformers: Age of Extinction," grossed more than $1 billion across the globe which Paramount to order a spinoff and more sequels for the blockbuster franchise. Last March, the production company was reportedly in negotiation with Bay, who directed the last four "Transformers" movies, as well as Oscar-winner Goldsman, who may oversee the script for the future films. There is no date set as to when the next movie will start production

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kirkman recently gave out some clues about the upcoming series, "Fear The Walking Dead," a companion show to "The Walking Dead."

Kirkman revealed that the new zombie series will be set in Los Angeles during the early stages of the zombie apocalypse, and will follow the story of two school teachers, Madison and Travis, who are in a relationship as well as focus on the lives of their respective children from their previous relationships. Kim Dickens will play the role of Madison, while Cliff Curtis will be Travis.

According to Kirkman, "Fear The Walking Dead" will be different from most TV shows being aired nowadays. He said, "[Madison and Travis] do love and respect each other. They're a happy couple, which is something that you don't see a lot of on cable television these days. Usually cable television focuses on infidelity, love triangles, divorces, marriages breaking down-that's really the meat and potatoes of the drama we mostly deal with on TV."

Kirkman further added that Madison and Travis' blended family will be interesting to watch, especially when you add zombies to the mix.

"I think the idea of having a blended family and trying to make all that work is an interesting family dynamic that could be the basis of its own show. The fact that we have zombies in it is icing on the cake," Kirkman said.

"Fear The Walking Dead" is set to be released soon.
