'Fifty Shades' Christian Grey POV Spin-Off Confirmed by Author EL James! Publication Due This Month

Christian Grey will have a birthday treat to all his readers. Come June 18, Grey's birthday, the fourth "Fifty Shades of Grey" novel is set to be released, author E.L. James announced through her Instagram account. The novel, titled "Grey," is to be told entirely in the perspective of BDSM-practicing billionaire. The first three "Fifty Shades" novels have been told through Grey's love interest, the young and naive literature student Anastasia Steele.

The author posted the cover of the book, which shows a close-up of an, presumably that of Christian Grey. Author E.L. James said in her post, "Hello all. For those of you who have asked, Christian's POV of #FSOG is published on 18th June for his birthday. It's called GREY... I hope you enjoy it.#FiftyShades #Grey".

James further said that "readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past," reports BBC. The author even went on to dedicate the entire book "to those readers who asked... and asked... and asked... and asked" for a novel that is told through Grey's voice, which James calls "a complex character."

"Grey" marks James' return to book-writing and publishing, after being reported to be very much involved in the filming of the movie adaptations of the first two novels of the "Fifty Shades" trilogy.

"Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story," James explained. "It's been a great pleasure to return to my happy place - writing, being with Christian and Ana in their universe, and working with the fantastic publishing teams in the US and the UK."

The book will be published by Arrow in both paperback and e-book formats. Selina Walker, the author's editor from Arrow, said that the "Fifty Shades" trilogy is "a love story that has captivated a readership like no other book," and that she "was thrilled" upon hearing about the author's decision "to write Christian's side of the story," The Telegraph reports. "Grey is just as addictive as the trilogy, and I know that this is what the fans have been waiting for."

The "Fifty Shades" trilogy, wherein the first novel was published in 2011 has achieved worldwide commercial success, with more than five million copies sold since its release. Last year, the movie adaptation of the first novel was also a success, earning $569 million worldwide. Incidentally, the next "Fifty Shades" movie, "Fifty Shades Darker," is said to be released in 2017.
