Ted Cruz & 'A Time for Truth': What 2016 Presidential Candidate's New Book Is All About

2016 presidential candidate, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, has an autobiography called "A Time for Truth," which hits shelves today. In the book, readers will learn more about the stories he shared during campaigns and his experiences that led up to now, with heaps of his conservative philosophy peppered on the pages.

In this memoir, the presidential aspirant recalls important conversations and his past careers. He writes about the things he rarely talks about such as his two older half-sisters, the late Miriam and 46-year-old Texas-based doctor Roxana, his father Rafael's children from his first marriage.

According to Politico, the senator recollected his memories of the "beautiful and quite intelligent, and incredibly loving" Miriam, who was, at one point, Cruz reveals, married an abusive man with a drug problem, who in turn, led her to develop addictions to alcohol and drugs.

After countless attempts to "talk some sense to her" and save her from her situation, Miriam eventually dies of drug overdose. Cruz wrote in "A Time for Truth" how "heartbreaking" his sister's death was, knowing that she "spent much of her life trapped by the demons of addiction and anger."

Talking more about his family, Cruz also tells of his father Rafael's interest to work with Fidel Castro, and how that interest quickly turned to disgust when he knew about Castro being a communist. The senator also recalled how hard it was for his accomplished wife Heidi to move to Texas with her career at its peak and with Cruz needing to attend as a solicitor general in the place, Washington Post retells.

The political figure went all out in the revelations and stories he told in the autobiography, but not much of the sharings are as heavy as the one in the story above. Most of which tend to bring a smile or trigger a chuckle.

Washington Post cherry-picked these experiences, which include the time he told the Brown University admissions counselor that he was hungover as well as the bowling game he shared with actress Bo Derek in 2000, who had him and the policy team "mesmerized."

There is also the epic moment when former President George H.W. Bush lent him jeans, a shirt and a belt with a buckle that read "President of the United States" so that he, Cruz, could join him on his boat. He also revealed how he regrettably "burned a fair number of bridges" for the former leader of the state.

The politician dropped the bomb with an insane story about the time he watched porn online with Supreme Court justices when he worked as a law clerk to Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist. The senator revealed that it was to prove how easy it is to access such on the Internet.
