Agatha Christie's 'And Then There Were None' Crime Novel Headed to TV! Get the Details Here

Variety is reporting that BBC One and Lifetime is working on making a mini-series out of Agatha Christie's acclaimed murder mystery novel, "And Then There Were None," which, Deadline notes, is one of the most revered crime-centric bestsellers of all time that sold 100 million copies worldwide.

The project is part of the celebration of the well-loved author's 125th birthday. BBC One will air it as a three-episode installment in the UK by the end of the year while Lifetime will handle its US premiere, which is scheduled next year.

The novel, first published in 1939, follows the story of 10 strangers, who are lumped together by a mysterious host in a secluded rock called Soldier Island located near Southern England's Devon Coast. There, they learn that the person behind the assemblage is absent, and all of them are charged with a crime.

In the course of the odd get-together, one traveler after another inexplicably die, prompting the survivors to think that a murderer among the group is on a prowl and is the one pulling the strings and orchestrating the alternating deaths.

Sarah Phelps, known for her work in "Great Expectations," "The Crimson Field" and "The Casual Vacancy," will be handling the screenplay. According to TV Wise UK, a remarkable ensemble for the much-awaited "And Then There Were None" adaptation is also locked in.

This include "The Hobbit" star Aidan Turner, "Mapp & Lucia's" Miranda Richardson, "Game Of Thrones" actor Charles Dance, "The Riot Club" star Douglas Booth and "Beautiful Kate" actress Maeve Dermody.

Also included in the cast are Burn Gorman from "Torchwood," Anna Maxwell Martin who starred in "The Bletchley Circle," "The Tudors" actor Sam Neill, Toby Stephens who was part of "Black Sails" and Noah Taylor from "Peaky Blinders."

"We are thrilled to be bringing Agatha Christie's wonderful novel to the television screen for the first time," BBC Controller of Drama Commissioning, Poly Hill, said via TV Wise UK. "Sarah Phelps' brilliant adaptation and this stellar cast will prove to be a real treat for the BBC One audience," she added.

According to Zap2it, "The Liability" director Craig Viveiros will helm the film, and Abi Bach will produce it. Agatha Christie Productions Ltd's Mathew Prichard and Hilary Strong, Karen Thrussell and Damien Timmer from Mammoth Screen and BBC's own Matthew Read will serve as executive producers.

Variety adds that BBC is also working on an adaptation of another one of Christie's novels titled "Partners in Crime," which is set to debut in the US on September 3.
