'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Update: 'True Blood' star Alexander Skarsgard Will Not be Christian Grey

Many stars have been said to be in the running to play the role of the sexy billionaire who loves BDSM, Christian Grey, in the movie "Fifty Shades of Grey," including "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard. But fans of the vampire are now going to "Fifty Shades" of disappointed.

According to Deadline, Skarsgard sat down last Saturday during a HBO panel at Comic-Con 2012 San Diego. He revealed that he has not heard any news on the film adaption of E.L. James' steamy novel, nor has been offered a casting part as Christian Grey.

"I haven't read the book and I haven't seen a script," said the "True Blood" actor.

Fans might be closer to knowing who will play 27-year old Christian, who enters into a dominant/submissive sexual relationship with the 22-year-old recent college grad Anastasia Steele, through an "agreement," and both explore the world of BDSM (bondage, dominance, submission, masochism).

The race has been on. Rumors say that "Drive" star Ryan Gosling, "The Vampire Diaries" Ian Somerhalder, and Matt Bomer are the frontrunners for the crucial role.

"The role of the sadomasochistic billionaire seems to be man-of-the-moment Ryan Gosling's to turn down. But the 'Drive' star may take some persuading," The Sun newspaper claimed.

In a recent poll conducted by USA Today, fans revealed that they want Somerhalder to play the dominating Christian Grey in the adaption of James' bestselling erotic novel.

Somerhalder has been showing that he wants to play the role of Christian. Last month, he even held a sort of campaign on his Twitter, making it clear that he's more than qualified to take the role, according to The Hollywood Gossip.

Other stars that are rumored to play the two roles are "Immortals" star Henry Cavill, and "The Hangover" star Bradley Cooper. Some fans also said they wanted "The Dark Knight" star Christian Bale to be the S&M crazed billionaire.

"Magic Mike" star Channing Tatum revealed that he would like to be Christian, but only if his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, were going to be Anastasia.

Recently, Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced Michael De Luca and Dana Brunett, producers of the Oscar-nominated film "The Social Network," as the production team for the erotic "Fifty Shades of Grey" film adaption.
