Reese Witherspoon Carries Mindy Kaling's Book, 'Why Not Me'

Actress and producer Reese Witherspoon has been spotted carrying a copy of "Why Not Me?" by Mindy Kaling, Entertainment Weekly reports.

"Why Not Me?" is the latest personal memoir written by Mindy Kaling. It is a collection of essays where she shares her journey to finding excitement and fulfillment in her adult life.

The book is extremely humorous and allows the readers to get to know the author more than any book she's written before.

Those who have not read "Why Not Me?" would not see the significance in such a photograph. After all, a lot of people have the book in their hands as it was published just this September.

The humorous point is that Reese Witherspoon is featured in Mindy Kaling's memoir, the exact book that the actress was carrying.

In the scene, EW recounts, Mindy and Reese were talking as they walk to their cars.

"No one who sees a photograph of us wants to see that we are anything other than totally happy all the time," Reese said.

"At first I thought that couldn't possibly be true, but then, on the drive home, I realized how correct Reese was. When I see a photo in Us Weekly of Angelina Jolie-Pitt walking back to her car from the pharmacy, I feel a little irrationally miffed if she's not smiling," Mindy Kaling wrote.

"She has a great life and, like, twenty gorgeous kids! ... If you're not grinning ear-to-ear when you're sleeping with Brad Pitt every night, then how sh-y is my life?" she continued.

Indeed, Reese Witherspoon was smiling widely as she walked to her car.

The actress' love for books had always been evident. Time Magazine notes that Pacific Standard has optioned many books to adapt for the screen.

Pacific Standard is a production company launched by Reese and the Australian producer Bruna Papandrea.

She has also narrated the audio version of the historic title of 2015, "Go Set a Watchman" by Harper Lee.

"As a Southerner, it is an honor and privilege to give voice to the Southern characters who inspired my childhood love of reading, Scout and Atticus Finch," USA Today quotes.

This October, Mindy Kaling is wrapping up her "Why Not Me?" book tour.

Despite that, the author is still facing busy days preparing for the fourth season of her "Mindy Project" series.

According to New York Times, the "Mindy Project" series used to air on Fox, but it had been cancelled last May after three seasons due to low ratings. Recently, Hulu had acquired the project.

The fourth season begins on October 15.
